By road from Johannesburg (when the Limpopo River is HIGH)

  • Route via Martin’s Drift: Follow the N1 north from Johannesburg towards and past Pretoria and then in the direction of Polokwane.
  • You will exit the N1 at the turnoff for Mokopane / N11 – far before Polokwane.
  • At the toll gate signposted Mokopane / N11 make sure you go through the left-most channel to take the N11 to Mokopane.
  • This is the last sizable town before the Reserve so stock up on snacks, water and fuel (note that there is a fuel station at the Reserve for the trip home).
  • Follow the N11 until the turn right into the R561 – follow the signs to Martin’s Drift / Groblersbrug (tar all the way).
  • Once across the border post and the Limpopo River turn right at about 10km onto the dirt road that tracks the river all the way to the lodge (you will see lots of lodge sign posts at the turn-off).
  • That trip is about 90km and takes about 80-90 minutes. You will know you have arrived at the Reserve because of the closed gates, which will be opened for you by a ranger.
  • Once you enter the gate to the Reserve, ask the guard to tell the Lodge that you have arrived and continue along the dirt access road until you see a sign for Limpopo-Lipadi to the right – you can’t miss it because its the only sign and its a km or so after the gate.
  • Take the right turn and follow that road and the signs until you get to a closed gate (the Shareholder Gate) – where you will be met and escorted to River Camp.
  • Please drive slowly in the Reserve as you never know what animals you may encounter.
