Leopard cub lullabies

By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: April 22, 2025 | Sightings

Good leopard sightings are not always easy at Limpopo-Lipadi, especially in this season with thick bush and tall grass. So, when you see a mother and her cub, consider yourself very lucky.

Leopards are nocturnal, but your best chance of spotting them is at dusk and dawn. On this particular morning, a mother leopard and her cub were slowly making their way to a hidden, shady place to spend the day. The cub, tired from a long night out, lagged behind, was calling out to its mom. Now and then, it would run ahead of her, as if begging to be picked up. After a few rounds of pleading—sometimes from behind, sometimes from in front—mom finally gave in.

With a firm yet gentle grip, she picked up her cub by the scruff of its neck. Instantly, all the little muscles relaxed—a natural reflex that helps leopard moms carry their young effortlessly. As she moved forward, the tiny cub dangled helplessly in her mouth, probably relieved to surrender to sleep and let his mother do the work. Slowly, they disappeared into the thicket, the cub safe in her careful hold, ready for a well-earned rest in the cool shade.
