Between Dusk and Dawn
By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: Oct 07, 2025 | Sightings
Safari activities usually take place between dawn and dusk, and sometimes just after dark. At Limpopo-Lipadi, there are no set hours for going on a game drive, but more often than not, we return to the lodges for a drink around the fire and a shared meal.
Yet, once the sun sets, the Reserve transforms. A whole new cast of characters emerges, each adapted to thrive in the darkness. Leopards and lions patrol the shadows, relying on stealth and night vision. The springhare bounces across open spaces like a mini kangaroo on turbo mode, while bushbabies leap acrobatically between branches in search of insects and fruit. Overhead, the silent flight of a spotted eagle owl reminds us that the skies are part of this nocturnal world too, especially when it pauses on a perch to survey its hunting grounds.
Night in the bush is never quiet, it is alive, full of eyes that see what we cannot. For those lucky enough to venture out after dark, it feels like entering a different Reserve altogether.
