A night in the bush

Co-owner Woody has been coming to Limpopo-Lipadi for many years and has a deep love for everything it offers. But ask him what he would never skip on a visit, and the answer is always the same: a night fly camping.
“There is perhaps no greater safari experience than sleeping under the stars with nothing but a thin layer of canvas between you and the bush. The night comes alive as you lie awake listening to the deep rumble of lions marking their territories in the distance, and at dawn you are woken by birdsong as the early light filters through your tent.
At Limpopo-Lipadi, both owners and guests can enjoy this by spending a night at one of three designated fly camp spots, each set beside one of our majestic baobab trees. At the end of the afternoon game drive, rather than return to River Camp, you follow lights shining through the bush to find your camp already set up and waiting: a blazing fire, comfortable tents, a bar, and a cook preparing dinner.
After cocktails and a dinner of steak, boerewors, grilled vegetables and mealie pap, the crew heads back and leaves your group and guide to sit around the fire under the stars. The Southern Cross, Orion’s Belt, maybe a full moon. Stories that take on a life of their own.
In the morning, no 5:30 wake-up call. You sleep until the sun wakes you, then unzip your tent to find the fire rekindled and a pot of hot water ready. A short morning drive brings you back to River Camp for a full breakfast. No stay at Limpopo-Lipadi is complete without a night in the bush. There is really nothing like it.”
