Motse Community
Help us positively impact the lives of children and adults in the Tuli Block, Botswana!
The Motse Committee funds and oversees community outreach programmes requested by local community representatives. Motse means ‘community’ in Setswana, and is a combination of the first letters of Moletemane and Tsetsebjwe, the names of the 2 villages closest to Limpopo-Lipadi.
Most reserve staff come from these villages, and representatives of both villages sit on the Motse Committee, along with Limpopo-Lipadi shareholders.
Management and administration costs for Motse are covered by Limpopo-Lipadi, so 100% of funds received by Motse are spent on community projects.
We invite you to join us and help us fund these urgent projects:
Old assembly area
New assembly area
Summers in Botswana can be very hot and wet, and winters can be surprisingly cold, so schools in the villages of Tsetsebjwe and Moletemane have asked for covered assembly areas, which also double as additional teaching space for the overcrowded schools. Motse has raised funds and built covered areas at 2 of the schools, but we are seeking funding for the remaining 2 schools. Each assembly area costs approximately Botswana Pula 100,000 ($7,300) and they are built using locally sourced materials and labour.
At the Tsetsebjwe Junior Secondary School 4 additional classrooms are desperately needed. Currently, classes are staggered because it is impossible to seat all the children at the same time. This makes for a lot of extra work for teachers and makes it difficult for families who have no transport when their children need to be at school at different times.
This year we provided school uniforms for more than 300 needy children at the 3 local primary (elementary) schools. School uniform is compulsory in Botswana and children who don’t have uniforms will often skip school. Although we found the funding this year, we need to ensure similar funds will be available for the next set of needy children. We will be sourcing uniforms from local tailors instead of from large retailers, in an attempt to support the local economy.
