Gathering around the Waterhole
By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: Jan 13, 2026 | Reserve
Not everything at Limpopo-Lipadi happens out in the bush. Some of the most enjoyable moments of a stay at the Reserve take place around the newly renovated and christened Mogobe Bar at River Camp Central Reception. “Mogobe” means “waterhole” in Setswana.
After an afternoon bouncing around in a Land Cruiser in search of wildlife, especially in the hot dry season, there is nothing better than relaxing by the river as the sun sets, drink in hand. Service is always warm and professional from our bartender and restaurant manager, Indie, whose colourful turban-style headwrap matches her broad and welcoming smile.
The real charm of the Mogobe Bar lies in meeting fellow co-owners and other guests and exchanging stories. Conversations can flow from rhino and leopard encounters to the many corners of the world our visitors call home: Europe, the UK, the US, South Africa, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. Few places bring together such a diverse, fascinating mix of people.
The bar now offers a growing selection of South African wines, including Painted Wolf, introduced during this year’s Information Day wine tasting. With the African Wild Dog as our signature species and logo, choosing Painted Wolf as our house wine felt natural. And yes, Fat Bastard is still available if you prefer it.
For those who linger a little longer over their drinks, the restaurant sits just a few steps away, serving a delicious menu that changes nightly. Whether you are staying at River Camp or one of the private lodges, an evening at the Mogobe Bar is not to be missed.
