When the bush decides to show off

By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: April 28, 2026 | Sightings

Wildlife sightings can be fickle, especially in summer when the bush is thick and green. Animals are harder to spot, drives can feel quiet, and yes, frustration can creep in. As co-owners, we know that feeling well.

But we also know that Limpopo-Lipadi has a way of rewarding patience. Just when we were ready to call it a day, the bush delivered. First, a mother rhino with her calf, then three more at close range. Then crackling in the thicket, and suddenly the breeding herd of elephants was right there too, sharing the same space. And then, more rhino appearing… Even one of the elephant bulls seemed caught off guard to find himself surrounded by his dehorned neighbours, which was rather funny to witness.

As the sun started to drop and the light turned rosy and red, we stopped for sundowners. And then, quietly, a few rhinos re-emerged from the bush and stood watching us from a short distance, backlit by the setting sun. A most remarkable end of a day in Limpopo-Lipadi.

Our rhinos are dehorned, our APU runs 24/7 patrols, the Botswana Defense Force is present on the Reserve, and we have highly technological systems in place to keep them safe.
