The bush’s morning newspaper

“Early mornings are the best time to look for tracks. The marks in the sandy earth mirror the activities of the night, the early morning newspaper of the bush. It’s exciting to read the tracks together with our experienced guides, and to tell apart not just different species, but also the direction they were moving in, their age, and even whether they were running in hunting mode. During my last visit, we picked up lion tracks just after entering through the main gate into the reserve. After a few hundred metres, we saw where they turned off onto a side road, with signs that they had started to hunt. After a challenging twenty minutes of tracking, we finally found two male lions, resting and digesting after their morning feast. What an exciting and successful start to a day in the bush.”
