Here’s her recollection: “Despite its bold colouring of yellow and black with flecks of red, the crested barbet has a decidedly scruffy appearance, which is enhanced by its ragged crest and bulky beak. My introduction to this bird was early one morning when I was woken by an alarm clock, only to find that the sound was actually the long “trrrrr” call of the male crested barbet!”
