Of recent Limpopo-Lipadi has received a good number of new rhinos from other parts of Botswana, in addition to our existing population. The reserve was vetted a couple of times for suitability of security and environment by the government and all boxes were ticked. As has been the case for a long time, our rhinos, both residential and from now on the new ones too, are monitored 24/7 by our Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) and the Botswana Defense Force. Furthermore, they are dehorned every year, have been micro-chipped and SmartParks technology supports the effort to keep the rhinos safe.
The newly arrived rhinos have been released from the Boma. Welfare patrols indicate that all the rhinos are doing well. Some of our old bulls have already selected a couple of buxom heifers and cows for companionship, and each new day the newcomers are exploring and settling into life at Limpopo-Lipadi. Shareholders Dr Martina Glatzl and her partner Mr Jost Künzli developed a body-conditioning app to assist our APU-operators in their daily task of gauging the rhino’s health and welfare, as well as recording interactions between our resident rhinos and the newcomers.
