Otters on the Limpopo (and more!)
By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: Oct 2, 2025 | Sightings
Helen and Stu from New Zealand, longtime co-owners of Limpopo-Lipadi, spent several weeks at the Reserve last August. The weather was a bit up and down, but that didn’t stop them from making the most of their time here, with patience, the luxury of time, good guiding, and a little luck all adding up to memorable sightings. Here is their personal account of their stay:
“During the course of the month we did manage to see a lot. Patience with the luxury of time and good guiding sprinkled with some luck, made it happen.
We did see good sightings of leopard, lion and 36(!) sightings of rhino. The highlight of sightings was definitely the Cape clawless otters on the shore of the Limpopo River, right in front of one of the lodges. We have seen them twice before but usually at night. This was a very special sighting during the day.
And then, one morning drive: two hyenas attacking a baby giraffe by Dalie’s cut line. It walked away with the mother. But it was injured and might not have survived its injuries. Raw and real bush life.”
