A hyena on a mission

These co-owners were out on a game drive, on a mission to track our wild dog pack, when they had an unexpected encounter. Here’s what they shared:
“One morning on a game drive, we were following fresh wild dog tracks when a spotted hyena caught our eye, moving fast and clearly headed somewhere with purpose. We followed its line towards a thick patch of bush, and there it was: a wild dog with a fresh kill, a steenbok. Breakfast time for the pack.
Wild dogs are often harassed by hyena looking to steal a meal, and this turned into a classic tug of war between the two. Hidden in the thick bush, it was hard to see clearly, but we could hear both yelping and whooping at each other.
The hyena was not in the least deterred and kept pulling on the steenbok. With too few of the pack around to help, the wild dog eventually had to give up. Off went the hyena with the largest part of the kill, leaving the dogs with scraps.
Not much later though, the pack found themselves a new prey, so breakfast was still on the menu.”
