Admittedly, this is not the best photo you’ve seen on our Limpopo-Lipadi blogs, but this photo has something to show. In our reserve, some animals tend to be rather unhabituated, so it was a real treat to have a pack of banded mongoose sit still for a couple of seconds while making eye contact with the people in the game drive vehicle.
Why is this special, you may ask? We have all seen photos or videos of meerkats, mongoose and likewise creatures sitting on termite mounds with people sitting right next to them or even up close on people’s camera lenses. But not with us, where the animals are not so much used to seeing people every day and where it may take some more effort to find tracks and signs of animals on your slow safari. With now and then of course your occasional portion of luck to see these lovely social creatures in the wild.
