The airstrip that belongs to everyone

By: Limpopo-Lipadi | Date: Jun 19, 2026 | Reserve

Did you know that Limpopo-Lipadi has its own airstrip? At around a kilometre long and laid with gravel, it offers a relatively straightforward way to fly directly into the Reserve, cutting out the road transfer and arriving straight into the bush.

But the airstrip is not only for aircraft. Out here, a large open stretch of ground is prime real estate for wildebeest and zebra. Wide open spaces mean clear sightlines, and clear sightlines mean safety. Predators have nowhere to hide, and the animals know it. On any given day you are as likely to find a herd grazing on the airstrip as you are to find it empty.

Which is why, before any aircraft lands, the pilot first usually makes a low loop over the strip to check for four-legged visitors and give them time to clear the runway.

Flying in is a great alternative to the road journey from Johannesburg, Gaborone or other parts of Botswana, and it means your safari starts the moment you touch down.
