Painted dogs, wild dogs, painted wolves… No matter what you call them, it’s good to realise that these emblematic Limpopo-Lipadi animals are critically endangered in all of Africa. There are only 5 500—6000 dogs left due to snaring, sickness and being shot by (a.o.) farmers who fear they are a threat to their livestock.

Wild dogs are highly social and live in packs while taking care of their pups, injured or older dogs.

At Limpopo-Lipadi we used to have more than 35 wild dogs until rabies wreaked havoc on the pack. Now, with a new alpha male and female, this pack is looking strong and healthy again.
